East Farm Stream
Andrew Stratford
£60
Description
East Farm Stream is rooted in a quiet stretch of Northumberland farmland, where a narrow ribbon of water cuts through rising spring growth. I was drawn to the way the stream moves almost unnoticed beneath the trees — not dramatic, not picturesque, but quietly persistent.
In this piece, I wanted the paint to carry the sensation of standing there: the sharp freshness of new leaves, the fractured light catching on water, the vertical rhythm of slender trunks pushing upward. I worked with direct, confident brushstrokes, allowing colour to sit clean and unblended so the surface remains alive and responsive. The greens are intentionally varied — acidic, luminous, cool and warm — to evoke that brief moment when the landscape feels electric with renewal.
The stream acts as both anchor and passage. It pulls the eye inward while holding a sense of stillness at its core. For me, this painting is less about describing a place and more about translating the energy of early growth — a subtle surge of life moving through the land.
The original painting has now sold, but a limited edition of high quality giclee prints is available, faithfully capturing the texture, colour and vitality of the oil surface.
