Description
This A2 colour pencil drawing is part of my Sleeping Dogs Collection and features Clover the Miniature Dachshund curled up like a croissant.
The piece was drawn in Faber Castell Polychromos on grey paper, in small square sections that gradually pieced together to reveal the full image.
My work focuses on our relationship with dogs and this collection aimed to demonstrate how integrated dogs are in our homes and the level of trust and reliance they have on humans, through portraying them comfortably at their most vulnerable.
The reference photos for this collection were submitted by the dog owners alongside information about the dogs and their typical sleeping habits.

West Yorkshire, United KingdomMy practice is fuelled by a lifelong love of both dogs and drawing, with a portfolio of pet portrait commissions alongside projects and themed collections. My work has recently shifted from formal portraits to more detailed scenes on a larger scale that incorporate a narrative element. I am particularly interested in exploring the unique nature of our relationship with dogs and the varied roles they play in society.
Originally from Sheffield, I am now based in Leeds where I have built my creative practice around my young family and job in Higher Education. I have exhibited work in many group exhibitions both online and in galleries across Yorkshire. I am a member of the Association of Animal Artists, the UK Coloured Pencil Society and North Art, and am a graduate of Wimbledon College of Art, where I studied Design for Performance.
