Light's Passage
Nga Quynh Ngo
£380
Description
Created with soft pastel and tinted charcoal on handmade Vietnamese Điệp paper, this work explores the moment when light breaks through a dark, shifting landscape. The warm golden surface of the paper remains visible throughout the image, becoming both light and space, while broken marks and heightened colour move the landscape away from literal representation.

About the artist
Nga Quynh Ngo
North Yorkshire, United KingdomNga Quynh Ngo
North Yorkshire, United KingdomBased in North Yorkshire, I create expressive landscapes that move between observation and abstraction. Working primarily with soft pastel and mixed media, I am interested in colour, shifting light and the physical qualities of the surface, allowing marks and areas of exposed paper to become part of the landscape itself.
My work spans a range of artists’ papers, and my recent practice increasingly incorporates traditional Vietnamese Dó and Điệp papers. I am drawn to the distinctive textures and surfaces of these materials and the possibilities they offer for exploring landscape in a more tactile and spontaneous way. Trained in graphic design at Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts, I returned to drawing and painting after many years working digitally, developing a material-led practice that embraces texture, expressive mark-making and the unexpected.
