Description
This painting is based on a sketch that Morgane made of two friends and lovers on a Sunday morning after a night out. It is not framed as it is painted on a deep edge canvas. It is part of her 'Faceless People' series - a body of work that examines how the absence of facial features reshapes our perception of others, questioning whether we privilege facial expression over bodily language when forming judgements about a person; what remains legible about a person when that primary site of recognition is withheld. It also seeks to suspend a single moment, a single pose, positioning the viewer as a voyeur who is present but unseen. It aims to make the viewer uncomfortable, perplex, and to interrogate the act of seeing, being observed and being the observer.
