Bluebell Woods

Every spring, ancient woodlands across the UK are carpeted in a sea of bluebells, creating a fleeting moment of magic. This print captures that brief yet unforgettable season — the vibrant greens of new leaves overhead, soft light filtering through the canopy, and the blue haze of flowers spreading endlessly beneath the trees.

Hand-printed as a reduction linocut, Bluebell Woods layers colour and carved texture to bring the forest to life. Each mark holds the rhythm of leaves, bark, and blossoms, echoing the quiet stillness you feel when standing among the trees.

A reduction linocut is a very special kind of hand-printed artwork. Instead of using a separate block for each colour, the entire print is created from just one piece of lino. I carve and print it in layers: first the lightest colours, then gradually adding darker tones, cutting more of the block away each time.

With every stage, the design slowly reveals itself, and by the end only the final darkest details remain. Because the lino is cut down as I go, the block can never be used again. This means every edition is truly limited—once the prints are finished, no more can ever be made.

Each piece is the result of careful planning, patience, and a little bit of magic as the layers come together. Owning a reduction linocut means owning something completely unique, with its own handmade character in every print.

Dimensions shown are for the printed image only. Each hand-pulled print is signed, titled, and editioned on the front beneath the image. A border of approximately 1.5 cm is left around the print for mounting and framing, allowing these details to remain visible.
