Description
Originating from still life studies I used abstract charcoal sketches as loose reference for the composition, with the majority of the imagery drawn from memory. Using thin layers of acrylic paint, the imagery is processed from the eye to the hand constantly, being perceived, processed and represented multiple times and then overwritten, adjusted and redefined. I emphasise my initial and past impressions through mark-making and scratches into the acrylic paint, highlighting the fleeting and shifting glimpses of details we perceive and retain as signifiers of an experience.
